Greenbrier River Tubing

USA Today named the Greenbrier River the best river for tubing in the United States, and if you've floated it, you already know why. Clear water, gentle current, wooded banks, and a pace of life that feels like it's from another era. This is the kind of river day people come back for every summer.

River City runs tubing trips out of Caldwell, WV — right on the Greenbrier, about 10 minutes from Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs.

We keep it simple: you show up, we get you outfitted, and the river takes it from there. No experience required. No complicated shuttle systems. Just a great float.

Note: If you do not need shuttle service, use the code PICKUP while checking out, and we will take $5 off each participant's rate.

What To Expect

You Will Get Wet
Wear clothes and shoes you don't mind soaking through. River shoes or old sneakers are perfect — flip flops have a way of disappearing in moving water. Leave your phone and valuables in the car or in a dry bag. We'll have you sorted before you launch.

What's Included
Your rental includes the tube. We'll go over the basics before you head out — launch point, take-out, what to expect on the way. It takes about five minutes and then you're off.

The River
The Greenbrier is a Class I river — gentle, predictable, and suitable for all ages. It runs clear over a gravel bed through the Greenbrier Valley, with forested banks and mountain views along the way. Water temperature peaks in July and August and is comfortable from May through September.

Getting Here
We're at 114 Honaker Hollow Rd in Caldwell, WV — about 10 minutes from downtown Lewisburg. If you're coming from DC, you're about 4 hours away via I-64 W. From Roanoke, about 1.5 hours. From Charlotte, around 4.5 hours. We're easy to find and there's parking on site.

When To Go

The Greenbrier runs best from late May through September. July and August are peak season — warm water, good levels, and long days. Spring trips (late April through May) can be beautiful but water levels vary and it runs a little colder. We monitor the river and will reach out before your trip if conditions require any changes.

FAQs

Do you offer group discounts?

If you've got a group of 5 or more, give us a call. We work with groups regularly and are happy to talk through options, availability, and pricing. It's easier to sort out over the phone than online.

Is the Greenbrier River safe for tubing?
Yes. The Greenbrier is a Class I river with a gentle current and predictable character. It's one of the reasons USA Today recognized it — it's accessible to nearly everyone. Life vests are included and required.

How long does it take to float the Greenbrier River?
Our half-day trip typically runs 2 to 3 hours. The full-day trip runs 5 to 6 hours. Actual time on the water depends on current water levels, how often you stop, and how fast you paddle (or don't). We'll give you a realistic time estimate when you book.

Do I need experience to tube the Greenbrier River?
None at all. If you can sit in a tube and float, you're qualified. We go over everything you need to know before you launch, and the river is forgiving. It's a great first river experience for people who've never done anything like this.

Can kids tube the Greenbrier River?
Absolutely. Families are some of our most regular customers. We recommend the half-day trip for younger kids. Children must be able to wear a properly fitted life vest — we'll make sure everyone is set before you get on the water.

What should I wear for river tubing in West Virginia?
Wear clothes you can get wet — board shorts, a t-shirt, and old sneakers or river shoes work great. Avoid flip flops. Bring sunscreen and consider a hat. Leave valuables and electronics in the car or a dry bag.
